Alan Johnston founded our independent consultancy in 1978 in Liverpool’s Commercial Business District, establishing a practice built on integrity, collaboration and technical excellence. His vision was to provide dependable engineering advice delivered personally by experienced professional, a principle that continues to define AJP today.
From these foundations, AJP has grown into a nationally operating civil and structural consultancy with offices in Liverpool and Birmingham. Over more than four decades, we have earned a reputation as trusted partners to clients across the Uk, recognised for our consistency, attention to detail and commercially aware design.
While our early growth was shaped by extensive work within the healthcare sector, our portfolio now spans education, residential, commercial, industrial and civic projects. Across all sectors, we maintain a peoplefocused culture where collaboration, technical rigour and quality assurance underpin every decision.
Our leadership team combines continuity and modernity, with four directors supported by a strong cohort of senior engineers and specialists in GeoEnvironmental and Infrastructure design. This structure ensures we deliver the responsiveness and care of a smaller firm with the technical capability and output of a much larger organisation.
